Dublin

I was very excited when I found out I was going to have a 22-hour layover in Ireland, Dublin to be exact, the land of leprechauns (not to be confused with hobbits). Old pubs and crafted beers are a “must do” in Ireland, and since the weather was pretty bad during my short stay, any indoor activity with heater, food, and entertainment was the way to go.

I started my day having lunch at one of the oldest pubs in Ireland, The Brazen Head, established back in 1198. This gem has an extensive menu for all appetites and a historical atmosphere like no other.

I ordered the Atlantic (fresh) seafood chowder, served with traditional brown bread and a side of potatoes fries, my kind of food to recover from jetlag, and to drink, a pint of Harp Premium Lager.

Walking distance from the pub is the Guinness Storehouse and Brewery Tour. Depending on the date and time of the tour, tickets to the brewery will run from €18.50 to €25 ($22 to $29), admission includes a complete brewery experience of Ireland's most famous beer, how to pour the perfect pint at the Guinness Academy, tastings and lots more. After the tour, I decided to “chillax” with a pint of beer at The Gravity Bar and a breathtaking 360° view of the city.

I finished my night with a lovely dinner at Bar Italia Ristorante. Recommended by locals, this award-winning restaurant serves authentic Italian food and wine in an intimate venue. Located right in the heart of Dublin City Centre and across from the famous Temple Bar.

Dublin is still in my “return to” list since there’s so much yet for me to discover.
